Actos Being Investigated for Possible Increased Risk of Bladder Cancer
Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP is currently investigating the diabetes medication Actos and its increased risk of bladder cancer among those who have taken it for one year or greater.
CLEVELAND, OH, September 23, 2011 /Health and Fitness PR News/ -- Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP is pursuing Actos bladder cancer lawsuits. Actos, a diabetes medication has been linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer in those taking the drug for one year or more. Actos has also been linked to increased risks of heart problems.
The FDA is advising health care professionals to discontinue prescribing Actos and other drugs containing pioglitazone to those who currently have bladder cancer, and to be cautious in prescribing the drug to those who have a history of bladder cancer due to the risk of cancer reoccurrence.* The FDA has also warned those who have taken the diabetes medication, Actos, for more than one year that they are at an increased risk of bladder cancer.** The FDA has issued this warning only two days after Actos was banned throughout Europe, and the European Medicines Agency has yet to release any new guidance on the use of Actos. A five year study of the drug shows that have the longest exposure to the drug, and the highest doses are at the highest risk of developing bladder cancer. There are three types of bladder cancer related to Actos; Transitional cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.
Actos has also been known to cause heart related problems, and the FDA has warned consumers about the dangers of possible heart attacks, cardiovascular death, congestive heart failure, stroke and other heart injuries and their side effects.***
The manufacturer of Actos has failed to provide adequate warning against the dangers of their product, meaning those who file an Actos lawsuit may be eligible for compensation if diagnosed with a cancerous bladder tumor or bladder cancer. There are currently hundreds of Actos lawsuits pending throughout the United States. Some of these cases may be consolidated into a "multi-district litigation" also known as an "MDL".
The Law firm of Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP is investigating potential Actos bladder cancer lawsuits as well as other Actos side effects such as Actos related heart attacks. The Spangenberg Law firm has extensive experience in dangerous drug lawsuits and other pharmaceutical litigation as well as decades of combined experience dealing with MDL's. Contact an Actos bladder cancer lawyer right away to inquire about a potential Actos lawsuit as the statute of limitations clock may already be running in your state.
